A ground-out stump is one you can actually do something with. We grind 6 to 8 inches below grade so you can seed grass, plant a new tree in the same spot (with fresh topsoil), or just have a level yard again. Surface grinding that leaves the root mass intact looks fine for a year and then sinks, leaving a depression. We do it right the first time. We grind any stump that fits — from small ornamental stumps to massive oak and walnut bases. Tight backyard access is fine; we have a smaller machine that gets through 36-inch gates. We can also follow surface roots out from the stump if they're heaving sidewalks or breaking up patios. Where roots run under foundations or utility lines, we'll stop short and tell you exactly what's there. Pricing is based on stump diameter and access. Most single residential stumps in Springfield run $100 to $300; larger or harder-access stumps run more.
